The Hero (very Very Sad. Please Read) by *bleeding4eternity*
A wife was happily married
with two children young in age
married to a police man
while she made minimum wage
each night she dreamed of many things
that we can not imagine
things of danger that face her love
and realistic things to happen
each night she crossed her fingers
and waited for him to arrive
and walk through the door unharmed
to hug and kiss his wife
each day she fixed her family dinner
four plates waiting to be cleared
only three plates sitting together
was always the family's fear
and one night daddy didn't come home
they assumed he was just working late
so they went ahead and had dinner
because their stomachs couldn't wait
momma tucked her kids into bed
now getting a little worried
shes known men to die at work
shes heard to many stories
she stayed up wating as long as she could
but she finally fell asleep
but woke up in the middle of the night
because the phone was ringing
it was his buddies from the station
something had gone terribly wrong
the guy that he was trying to arrest
had a loaded gun
"your husband was called
for a robbery down the road
the robber had many hostages
and was acting out of control
he threatened to shoot them all
his warning would not be taken lightly
and when he went to shoot a man
your husband stepped in slightly
he jumped in front of the man
and took the bullet himself
maam, we did all we could
but nothing seemed to help
the robber ran away
scared of the punishments he'd now face
but was caught not a second later
his name now a disgrace
maam i was at the scene
your husband just couldn't make it
he tried his hardest to hold on
but slowly began to slip
he asked one thing before he passed
and i promised to fulfill his wish
he told me to tell you that he'll always love you
and to tell the kids this:
daddy will never be gone
as long as you keep him alive
because in you heart daddy lives
and his love will never die
he said 'tell my baby girl
ill be at all over plays
watching her shine like a star
on center stage'
'tell my boy that hes great
and ill be at every game
even though you can't see me
things will never change'
and last of all he told me
to tell you to be strong
he says he knows you can do it
and that hes had faith all along
then with his last breath
he said i love her and i always will
then his eyes shut
and his body laid still
mam, I'm sorry that this had to happen
he was the best of all our men
we all give him great respect
and we will all miss him
and from the man whom he saved
he'd just like like to say
that your husband was the greatest man
and saved his life today
and from all of us down at the station
we'd like for you all to know
that you can stand up tall and say
your husband died a hero
