I Did It Anyway by *Chelsey-Lynn*
Just a regular ol’ day
So warm and so sunny
The clouds like cotton candy
The sun like honey
Just me and my paint brush
Painting pictures of the sky
Then in between two houses
Something strange caught my eye
A little girl was being forced
Her pants being torn
They were completely ripping apart
The beautiful clothes she’s worn
No one was home at my house
I ran next door to get help
Each step I ran I heard her scream
This little girl’s pain I felt
I painted the license plate number on my hand
Before I knocked on the door I was grabbed
I screamed and I kicked
He said, “Shut up or you’ll be stabbed.
Still gripping my neck tightly
He said, “I should rape you too
But I’ve got some place to go
Maybe I’ll come back for you.
I thanked God in my head
While he said don’t say anything to the police
Then what was I supposed to do?
Nothing, because he said he’d kill me in my sleep
He and his buddy jumped in the truck
He left me standing alone
How did no one see that?
I’m in the neighborhood of my very home
I played everything in my mind
He said don’t SAY anything to the police
So maybe I could draw them a picture
Of what happened to the little girl and me
I won’t speak any words
I’ll write what I have to say
Because then I won’t be killed
I’ll be safe and ok
The cops ended up catching them
The rappers were put in jail
In the court the man lipped
“I’ll get you when I’m out on bail
So now I’m married with two children
I moved 500 miles from where I was
That man didn’t haunt my mind
I didn’t think he’d still hold that grudge
That little girl is grown
She lives next door to me
We’re now really close friends
She always comes over for cookies and tea
One night I was walking home
Form a party on the street
Before I even blinked
I was swept off of my feet
I heard “I told you not to say anything
I was thrown in jail that day
Now I’m taking your life
Because you did it anyway
