To October by Jane M. Koch
Gossamer mornings dew give way to radiant, golden days
where auburn, nut brown leaves dance along dusty roads,
and spider webs glow and shimmer from forgotten, secret places.
The harvest is in and the earth seems to be slumbering,
but with a sweet, melancholy beauty that only Autumn can bring.
Yet, there are signs of vibrant life everywhere,
even as the trees burn bright against a silhouette of the sunset in the evening sky.
Another day ends, another begins and so the cycle is re-born;
out of the withered leaf emerges the tender bud.
