Malfunctions by Farah L. Stark
A swirling vortex of dirt and debris
Makes a death trail right beside me
I watch it spin, unravel, re-ravel, and churn
As flexible as a deadly earthworm
Some miles away on a sandy beach
The winds blow as far as they can reach
The ocean is wakeful, out of its slumber
Lightning crashes, roaring thunder
Trees are ripped right out of the ground
No one can muffle this horrible sound
And still, in a city yet unexpecting
A monster lives under the brand-new cementing
It finally unleashes its horrible wrath
The buildings are rattled so bad that they crash
The Earth moves in wedges, they upset the peace
No one saw this coming, the deadly release
In a swampy place across the plain
A plug was pulled out of Earth's drain
Trees and houses are swallowed up whole
By a horrific, sinking, gaping hole
So unexpected, unknown its make
More surprising than that heavy earthquake
In the middle of the foamy blue
A terror happens out there, too
A vortex of its very own
Perhaps similar to one afore shown
The watery death trap has just begun
It makes no difference how bright the sun
Not above the surface, yes, right below
The raging current begins to blow
It swirls and spins the sea life around
Although not moving an inch from sea ground
A hundred, thousand miles away
The molten rock begins to sway
The inverted funnel starts to erupt
And soon the red-drenched Earth seems corrupt
On a mountain far from last destination
Starts God's most understandable creation
The snow comes tumbling down to the ground
Seemingly masking incredible sound
Of the sirens that rip through the West coast silence
And then comes the earthquake's faithful alliance
A giant tsunami, a vast deformed wave
Warnings run out to the people they save
But then it all leads back to here
And starts all over again so near
The vortex ripping through the thickest ground
Stops suddenly, leaving without a sound
After the eye and some more of the wind
The monsterous monsoon begins to cave in
The terrible monster that made things shake
Goes back to start a future earthquake
And in the murky, sinking thrill
The sinkhole stays incredibly still
The whirlpool runs from its bubbly phase
Leaving the fish and the sharks in a daze
The volcano stops giving a firey trail
And goes back in hiding like always, no fail
The avalanche calms its cold self down
The mountaineers leave in a freezing drown
The immense form of watery air
Goes back into currents, hundreds in despair
And I, the one who's seen it all
Goes home and starts to quickly recall
So I can write it all like this
These malfunctions always end in bliss
