Leaves Tell A Story by Sharon K. Alsop
Leaves telling forgotten stories
Through their fluttery dances
Of seasons long lost in memories
They are a dying breed
Falling to their awaiting death
Cold hard ground crushes their life
Thousands all forced to flee
Jump from their high perches
Old and withered with age
Their season in the sun over
A few cling tenaciously
Tethered together with last effort
To share their story
Next year's birth of green
How the sun hid
And the wind's bite came
Sending their brethren into flight
Where death came quickly
But the tribe of leaves will return
When the cold relinquishes its hold
Warm breath of sun comes out of hiding
Another season will arrive
With young appearing atop trees
Bringing life to another season
