Journey Of The Wind by Grethel Haviland

The wind winds its way over gurgling streams
And ripples onto forest floors
It peeks at creatures fast asleep
And gallantly let's them slumber
But mischievously shakes the trees above
And gather their blossoms and flee

It ruffles the feathers of fowl and eagles
And treads the mountain peaks
Then it swiftly climbs, to give the skies a kiss
It passes over fields of corn
And farmsteads nestled among trees
Barn doors and windows rattle shrilly
and wave to the wind as it goes

It whirls around and over townships
Stirs dust clouds from their beds
It claims to make the church bell ring
And cause the phone lines to sway

Over ponds it travels - where ducks and geese play
And old folks tending to their feed
Children running, handballs rising
Oh! how the wind puffs with glee

Lovers in the moonlight mouth promises
Praise the wind as it cools their ardent kisses
So they can start again
The wind puffs and leaves them the couples swooning

Passing tenement buildings embraced in concrete yards
It sets dumpsters flying against graffiti walls
And whips the mangy dogs that howl throughout the night

Into dark tunnels after trains it hurries
And out to the open seas
There it travels and moisture drinks till it is ready to sleep
