ADD A LITTLE SEASONING by Eleanor J. Woodward
The weather is changing quickly as the days progress too fast.
The warmer climates in the sunshine are now a part of the past.
The autumn leaves are showing their suits of red and gold.
Soon fall will turn to winter bringing snow and ice and cold.
The forecasts in New England are never quite the same.
Some days they're filled with lots of sun, while others lots of rain.
Yet through the change of seasons, a native can expect to see
the changing of the landscapes from the inland to the sea.
The summers are hot and humid, while the springs are gray with gloom.
We start our annual plantings and patiently await their bloom.
The autumn reflects the colors of the leaves on aging trees.
The winter triggers the temperatures to drop to negative degrees.
The sun peeping out in the springtime is a whisper to all mankind.
It refreshes our gloomy spirits and brings us peace of mind.
The cold is gone! The temperatures are up! It's time to get outside!
We'll surrender the cabin fever and start opening up the blinds.
Springtime rolls into summer, hot with heat and lots to do--
trips to the beach or local parks or swimming in the pool.
Late day walks, the smell of smoke from campfires all around.
Cookouts with friends and family laying blankets on the ground.
The leaves we raked and gathered that had fallen with the wind
Are now just piles of nature to be mulched and used again.
The snow with star-shaped, shiny flakes glistening in the sun
is soon to become massacred from the children having fun.
The seasons are a constant, yet short-lived throughout the year.
The snow becomes a nuisance and only sunbeams bring us cheer.
So daily we make our inquiries on what weather is coming our way.
Sunshine or not, we'll just add some spice, and call it a seasoned day.
