What Do I Want? by Nicole Cabezas

What do I want?
This is something I ask myself everyday
But do I have an answer for you?
I’m still deciding, I think

I think deciding what you want—
In any circumstance—
Is difficult for anyone

But there are a few things
That I know that I want out of life
I want to be happy
I want to find love, be in love
I want good friendship
I want family
I want to have the life that my parents want for me
I want someone in my life that cares about me as much as I do them
I want to be someone
I want to go somewhere
I want to be able to say “I’m alive today!�
I want to be able to shout to the world “I’m really, truly alive!�

I don’t want to look back and regret things I did
I don’t want to have to go back and say I’m sorry
I don’t want to wish I’d done something different
I don’t want to feel like there’s nothing left for me
I don’t want to lose myself
I don’t want to live without the ones I love
I don’t want to fight
I don’t want to yell
I don’t want to have to say I could’ve done better
I don’t want to think I’m not good enough for anyone
And I don’t want to live and not exist

I’m here
And
I think I might have an idea of what I’m here for
I just hope that I can do it
That I can get what I want
