The Bible VS History Books by Mark Spencer
Those who want their freedom,
To break the moral code,
Look for their excuses
Down a delusive road.
They evidence their case,
With a tenuous suit.
Believing their debate
Is one you can’t refute.
They speak of the Bible,
As just a story book.
In search of excuses,
And reasons not to look.
Lost in the translation,
Was its integrity.
And time has compromised,
Its authenticity.
Yet these very people
Accept without question,
The books of history,
By interpretation.
Alexander the Great,
And Attila the Hun.
Were absolutely real,
And disputed by none.
What of Alexander,
Do you know what is said?
The mantle of the gods
Rested upon his head.
They hailed him, son of Zeus.
The blood of the most high.
Even Alexander
Believed he couldn’t die.
Yet he is accepted,
And not disregarded,
While tales of Jesus Christ
Are simply discarded.
It’s Hebrew tradition,
To memorize the law.
Their strict dedication,
Inspires one to awe.
It’s passed on, word for word,
For their education.
Taught in every household,
By each generation.
Yet they are still dismissed,
By those who would rebel,
Against the Lord’s judgment,
As to Heaven and Hell.
While historic accounts
Are accepted as fact.
Taken wholly on faith,
No matter how abstract.
Our personal interests
Determine how we choose.
Judgment of our actions,
Shape our religious views.
Students who won’t study
Have loudly protested,
Receiving failing grades,
When the class was tested.
But if they’re unprepared,
Do they expect to pass?
Why should they graduate
With the rest of the class?
No one is rewarded
For frivolous pursuits.
Yet those who fail to pass
Continue their disputes.
They claim a loving God
Would treat us all the same,
No matter what we do,
Or how we play the game.
The Bible disagrees,
So it must be untrue.
It puts moral limits
On everything we do.
Most reject those restraints,
Not wanting to be bound.
They offer excuses,
Insincere and unsound.
So rather than admit,
They want to live in sin,
They give other reasons,
Denying God again.
For years people have tried
To prove the Bible wrong.
Each time it was tested,
It proved to be too strong.
But we can’t say the same
Of our history books.
Mistakes are always found,
Whenever someone looks.
We base what we believe
On our own happiness.
We don’t believe in God
Because of selfishness.
We know, facing judgment,
We’d likely not fair well.
So we call God a lie,
And say there is no hell.
One takes the selfish path,
While God, he overlooks.
Just like the multitudes,
In our history books.
