Mother Goose by Mark Spencer

Mother Goose
By Mark Spencer

Old Mother Goose
Was on the loose
One chilly day last winter.
She disappeared
While the children cheered
Down at her daycare center.

Stress took its toll
She had no control,
Of the children in her care.
Parents were rude,
And twice she was sued,
For teaching the kids a prayer.

She’d had enough,
The job was too tough,
She left it all behind her.
Slipping away,
That cold winter day,
Where nobody would find her.

A search began;
The town had a plan,
To bring her back, safe and sound.
She wasn’t there;
They searched everywhere,
She was nowhere to be found.

Little Jack Horner
Looked in the corner,
Behind his plasma TV,
Little Bo Peep
Searched every last sheep.
Oh where could Mother Goose be?

Then Jack and Jill
Climbed up the hill,
Where they could see, far and wide.
Old Mother Hubbard
Checked every cupboard,
And any place she might hide.

Then Humpty Dumpty,
Pronounced with an umpty,
Saw some goose prints in the snow.
He shouted to all,
But fell off his wall,
Into the powder below.

Mother Goose appeared
And everyone cheered,
They all begged her to return.
But where did she hide?
And would she confide?
The answers, they had to learn.

They’d looked everywhere,
Here, and over there,
There was nowhere left to search.
But she didn’t go,
There was too much snow,
Instead, she’d just gone to church.

They all looked her way,
In shock and dismay.
Humpty climbed up to his perch.
They seemed in a daze,
With a puzzled gaze,
As they asked: “We have a church?

End.
