Perfection by Kathleen Haag

I chased a lacy butterfly,

And gently touched its wings.

Then listened to a lusty bird,

And wondered how it sings.

I plucked a dainty rosebud,

With petals soft as silk.

I pierced a yellow dandelion,

To find its drop of milk.

I cried a tiny tear drop.

It fell upon my breast.

The summer sun was warm and sweet,

And, I knew that I was blessed.

I ran through fields of tender grass,

Soaked by a sudden shower.

I rested in a fragrant place.

It was a honeysuckle bower.

I touched a newborn baby's hand,

When it was warm with sleep.

Longingly I dreamed of love,

Forever mine to keep.

Fluffy crystal snowflakes,

Have rested on my lashes,

While oaken logs burned brightly,

And fell to glowing ashes.

Nighttime darkness has attended me,

As I slept upon my bed.

And, white cotton candy clouds,

Have danced above my head.

I've known the delicious wonderment,

Of a miracle that's come true.

Then mourned for a dear loved one,

As, wretchedly, I bid adieu.

I am fascinated and bewildered,

As I reflect upon my life.

Much more vivid is the happiness.

Almost forgotten is the strife.

Each tiny precious memory,

Is a contented reflection,

Of a life that wasn't perfect,

But, still is was perfection.
